About the designer, Emilie

Emilie Sandré is a product designer and concept developer based between Eindhoven and Paris. After a preparatory program at Ateliers de Sèvres in Paris, she graduated in 2025 with a Bachelor’s degree from Design Academy Eindhoven.

Over five years of design studies, she shaped her artistic vision and critical eye, centering her practice on developing concepts around adaptability, sustainability and play. Nourished by music, textiles, wood and metalworking, Emilie’s world of design is a dialogue between intuition, materiality, and critical thinking through collaborative research.

A defining discovery in her journey has been designing for children. She believes there’s still so much to invent, reimagine, and rethink to support children’s development, joy and imagination beyond screens, and in harmony with the world around them.

About the studio, Emilie Sandré Design

Emilie created the studio after her modular costumes became unexpectedly popular right after her graduation. The core values were already there from the start. Modularity. Sustainability. Product design focused on longevity. Smart and innovative concepts made to evolve with time. What began as a playful set of adaptable pieces soon turned into a larger vision. Emilie wanted to design objects that spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and make sense in a world that needs more responsible ideas.

Today, the studio keeps pushing this vision forward. It explores new materials and works with reclaimed or leftover textiles. Giving forgotten fabrics a second life has become a key mission. Each product is designed to last, to be repaired, transformed, and reimagined instead of being replaced. The studio learns directly from children, parents, and collaborators. Their feedback helps shape creations that fit real needs and inspire meaningful moments.

Above all, the studio stands for thoughtful, flexible, and conscious design. It is a place where imagination meets responsibility. Every project aims to build a more sustainable, playful, and hopeful future.

The core of the Studio

Modularity and Play

Whether through our finished products or our design processes, play is always at the core. Play is essential to creativity, and we want to prove that an object’s ethics do not conflict with its playful nature.

Modularity is our way of giving you the utmost freedom to create: we design modular systems to leave room for you to be the final designer. Modularity enables us to make our products repairable, durable, infinitely playful and above all, to create products you never grow tired of.

Laser Cutting

Laser cutting is the driving force of our Paris workshop, opening up an endless array of possibilities to play with shapes and assemblies.

The textiles are laser cut in our workshop in the Paris region. This allows for very local production, with no risk of overstocking, and a lovely finish that stands the test of time and children.

Sustainability

Our conviction: sustainability is a constant pursuit. Today, we make use of upcycled textiles, laser cut to limit waste, avoid glue, and produce locally on demand. To finish: cardboard packaging, kept to a strict minimum.

Materials are chosen based on their resistance, origin, diversity of textures, as well as their machine washability. Our textiles come from NonaSource, which upcycles deadstock fabrics from luxury fashion houses.

We therefore champion an ethical practice of textile sourcing.

The Story of the Modular Costumes

From a graduation project to a design studio

A product developed with the children

Throughout the process, children have been at the center of creation. The design of the modular costumes was paced by numerous tests of modular systems, shapes, textures, and materials. Each iteration was tested with children during workshops organized by the creator to move towards a design reflecting children, staying true to the complete freedom she sought when she was a child. This is what creates the strength of the modular costumes, the reason why children adopt them so easily: the creation comes just as much from them as from Emilie.

Deeply sensitive to children’s design and the incredible freedom of play that modularity can bring, Emilie searches through her fondest childhood memories for her graduation project at Design Academy Eindhoven. This is where the idea of a modular costume creation system feels not only like an obvious choice, but even a necessity given the existing costume market.

The Studio’s beginnings

For the first time, the Modular Costumes are exhibited at Dutch Design Week in October 2025. The stock is completely sold out by the fourth day. The excitement, the very positive feedback, and above all the passion shared with the creator driving her project decide her to launch her own design studio with her flagship product The Modular Costumes: Emilie Sandré Design.
