What is The Wardrobe is Open?
The Wardrobe is Open is the graduation project of Emilie Sandré from the Design Academy Eindhoven. It is a modular costume system for children. Today’s costumes often come with readymade stories, gendered clichés, and little room for imagination.
In response, Emilie created nine flat shapes that can be endlessly combined and reimagined. Each piece is laser-cut from reclaimed textile sample books, giving hard-to-recycle materials a second life and letting children invent their own characters.
The Essentials Kit
The Essentials Kit of The Wardrobe is Open is designed for one to two children and is suitable for children aged 3 till 12. With this pack they can create countless costumes and enjoy endless dress up play. The set contains everything needed to start inventing costumes and exploring imagination.
If you would like to create larger costumes, share the fun with more children, or explore a wider variety of colors and textures, you can add extra packs.
